you have GOT to be kidding me.

Every now and then I’m forced to revisit my definition of a poor war strategy. Most of the time that poor war strategy takes place, it’s negotiable whether it might work or not and it’s someone’s judgment call. A good example of ridiculously poor strategy would be when Hitler decided to overextend his Wehrmacht by trying to invade Russia, and it essentially cost him the war. To be fair, it has been noted that Hitler was suffering from any number of mental and physical debilitations, and was basically traveling down dementia avenue at that point in the war.
THAT being said, dementia is the only excuse for knowingly poor war decisions–especially when people’s lives hang in the balance. I read in the news yesterday that the newest Iraq War ‘plan’ is one involving the ARMING OF SUNNI EXTREMISTS in order to fight Al-Qaeda alongside our troops….what?
AP-The US high command this month gave permission to its officers on the ground to negotiate arms deals with local leaders. Arms, ammunition, body armour and other equipment, as well as cash, pick-up trucks and fuel, have already been handed over in return for promises to turn on al-Qaida and not attack US troops.
Excuse me? I must’ve misread.
Last I checked, the Bu$h Administration was busy trying to get in Iran’s ass for allegedly ‘arming Sunni extremists in Iraq’ with weaponry used to kill American troops and civilians (by the way, notice how that story died when it became pretty clear that the weapons used are mostly blackmarket-bought..).
That might be the straw that breaks the camels’ back (pun wholly intended). Arming people that are responsible for the most of the heaviest casualties within the Sunni Triangle (area includes Tikrit, fucking Fallujah, Samarra, and Ramadi), with a hope and a prayer that they won’t use U.S. branded assault rifles to murder our soldiers and use the money to build more IEDs. In case you didn’t know (apparently Bu$h doesn’t), Al-Qaeda is a SUNNI-based group. Who else is an extremist Sunni? Well, Bin Laden and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, for starters An early 2007 poll found ‘Between 75% and 87% of Iraqi Sunni Arabs consider armed attacks on U.S. forces legitimate and justified resistance’..
Oh right, wait… they promised.
Nevermind.
